The event

Here, the roads were laid out by the Romans and, before them, by the Etruscans. In those days, wheels were made of solid wood, heavy carts pushed by hand or pulled by horses. Then, on the very same ground that in 1440 witnessed the famous Battle of Anghiari, immortalised by Leonardo da Vinci, came the bicycle — and L’Intrepida.

In a short space of time, this vintage bike tour has evolved into one of Italy’s most beloved events: breathtaking landscapes, carefully selected routes combining dirt tracks and tarmac, exquisite cuisine at the stages, a warm welcome and an atmosphere of genuine camaraderie that makes every weekend truly extraordinary. In the 2025 edition, there were a thousand of them — and everyone was smiling.

Practical information

Only vintage racing bikes built before 1987 are permitted: steel frame, gear levers on the down tube, pedals with toe clips and straps, external brake cables. Clothing must be vintage cycling attire.

Those without a suitable bike can hire one through Hotel Dory (approx. €80) or directly at the event. Advance booking is compulsory.

For the 85 km and 120 km routes, a competitive sports medical certificate for cycling or a competitive cycling licence (FCI, ACSI, UISP and other recognised bodies), valid on the date of the event, is mandatory. For the 42 km route, a certificate of fitness for non-competitive sport is sufficient.

Please note regarding the Intrepido route: anyone passing through km 68 (Monterchi) after 14:00 will be automatically diverted onto the 85 km route. The 120 km route is classified as challenging.

For full regulations and registration, visit the official website www.lintrepida.it.

The 2026 routes

Around 40% of the route is on dirt tracks through Valtiberina, Sansepolcro, Caprese Michelangelo, Monterchi and Citerna. Five vintage refreshment points: Ponte alla Piera · Castello di Galbino · Castello di Sorci · Felcino Nero · Lippiano. Closing lunch featuring the famous Anghiari bringoli.
