The route leads through picturesque hills in the Romagna hinterland, featuring winding and scenic roads that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. As you approach the town of Carpegna, you'll notice a transformation in the landscape. The hills become steeper, and the roads become more challenging.
Along the way, there are opportunities to stop in the villages of Montecerignone and Carpegna, located at the foot of the Cippo ascent, for a quick refreshment break.
In Carpegna, those who dare can tackle the legendary Cippo climb, made famous by Marco Pantani, one of the greatest cyclists in history. The ascent is demanding, covering 8 kilometers with an average gradient of 12%—a true challenge!
Reaching Cippo di Carpegna is a unique experience. You can pause to admire the monument to Pantani and reflect on his epic achievement. Following an exhilarating and technical descent through the woods, you'll arrive at the Cantoniera pass, where a van awaits with a packed lunch provided by Dory.
For those who opt not to ascend Cippo, the journey continues from Carpegna along the ascent toward the Cantoniera pass, where they'll meet up with their fellow travelers.
After lunch, you'll embark on the descent back to Riccione, an exciting experience with fast turns and spectacular views, offering a sense of freedom as you descend the very roads you conquered on the way up.
